Las Vegas, Nevada 1/9/2007 - Sports fans are driving the sales of high-definition televisions (HDTV) according to the second annual “Inside the Mind of the HD Sports Fan” survey conducted by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) and the Sports Video Group (SVG). The survey was unveiled at the 2007 International CES®. The International CES, the world’s largest showcase of consumer technologies, runs January 8-11, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Educational Guides Available on MyCEknowhow.com and CNET.com

Arlington, Virginia - To help consumers navigate the new features and options made available by digital television, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and CNET (www.cnet.com) have joined forces to produce interactive MyCEknowhow Buying Guides. The Guides, which can be found on the CEA’s consumer information site, www.MyCEknowhow.com, are designed to introduce consumers to digital television (DTV) and to ease confusion about the technology before shoppers even enter the store.

MP3 Players Top Wish List Second Year Running

Arlington, Virginia - Consumer electronics (CE) gifts will account for a quarter of all holiday gifts with revenues reaching $21 billion this holiday season, compared to $17 billion (21 percent) in 2005. Results from the 13th Annual CE Holiday Purchase Patterns study were presented by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) today at CEA’s 2006 Industry Forum, a three-day conference designed to inform, connect and educate consumer electronics professionals, industry analysts and media on the latest trends, technologies and legislation affecting the industry.

“The holiday outlook for our industry is a merry one,” said Director of Industry Analysis Sean Wargo. “Consumers’ confidence in the economy is on the rise and the CE industry will benefit. CE gifts dominate a quarter of the overall holiday gift giving market. And consumers tend to shop with a ‘one for you-one for me’ mindset during the holiday season. As a result, gifts for others only account for about half of the volume of sales in the fourth quarter.”

Arlington, Virginia - The following statement was issued today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) President and CEO Gary Shapiro regarding the ability of satellite broadcasters to transmit high-definition (HD) signals to consumers who cannot receive such signals over the air from their local broadcasters.

“In 2004, CEA supported the reauthorization of the Satellite Home Viewer Act (SHVIA), which allowed consumers to receive HD signals. We believe that this intent should be upheld.

Pencils, Paper and CE Products Top the Shopping List This Year, According to CEA

Arlington, Virginia - Seventy-two percent of teens expect to have a new consumer electronics (CE) product for back to school this year, according to a recent survey from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). According to the study, Back to School CE Spending, parents and teens are expected to spend $3.1 billion for CE devices this year for back to school. Not surprisingly, calculators and computers topped the list of products that both teens and parents are likely to buy for school.

“While calculators have been a staple on back to school shopping lists for some time now, computers are a relatively recent ‘must-have’ item,” says Steve Koenig, CEA’s senior manager of industry analysis. “As a result, average household spending on back to school supplies is on the rise. In fact, we forecast that 67 percent of parents intend to spend between $100 and $500 on back to school items this year.”

CEA Enthusiastic About Participating In NTIA’s Proceedings On The Digital Television Converter Box

Arlington, Virginia - The following statement was released today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) President and CEO Gary Shapiro in response to the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) call for public comment on its proposed rules to establish a national coupon program for digital converter boxes:

“This NPRM marks an important milestone in the nation’s transition to digital television. Thus far the transition to DTV has been extremely successful. CEA forecast that U.S. consumers will purchase more than 18 million DTV sets and displays this year, marking a 50 percent increase over 2005 sales. 2006 will also be the year that high-definition television (HDTV) outsells analog television set units. According to sales projections, HDTV sets will outsell analog sets by 89 percent in 2006, reaching total unit sales of 15.9 million and contributing to over $23 billion in total DTV revenue.

ESPN, ABC Sports and Syntax-Brillian Enter Into Major Marketing Agreement Focused on Olevia HDTV

Olevia Brand Will Be Featured Across Broad Range of ESPN and ABC Media Outlets

TEMPE, ARIZ., July 12, 2006 Syntax-Brillian Corp. (Nasdaq: BRLC), a manufacturer and marketer of LCD and LCoS HDTVs and digital entertainment products, today announced details of a sweeping marketing agreement with ESPN and ABC Sports that will feature the companys Olevia brand throughout ESPN media properties including television, radio, print, and online outlets.

The agreement will run from September 2006 thru March 2007 and leverage the breadth of ESPN and ABC outlets, including TV networks ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, and ESPNews as well as ESPN Radio, ESPN.com, and ESPN the Magazine, to highlight the Olevia brand of LCD HDTVs. CEA’s Shapiro Calls on Congress to Stop the Expansion of Copyright Law Until Consumer Rights are Protected

Arlington, Virginia - Last week’s federal court ruling in the CleanFlicks case proved how copyright law has tilted toward content owners at the expense of the public, according to Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) President and CEO Gary Shapiro. A federal court in Denver found that CleanFlicks, a business that bought DVDs of movies and removed obscene and offensive portions and then resold the movies, violated the copyright law and had to cease operations.

According to Mr. Shapiro, “Parents should have the right to benefit from technology to protect their children from graphic sex and violence.

Consumers Report High Levels of Satisfaction Purchasing Home Technology, Finds CEA Survey

Study Shows Significant Levels of Regret Among New Home Buyers Who Did Not Purchase Home Technologies

Arlington, Virginia - Consumers who purchased technology, such as home theater and monitored security systems for their new home exhibit high levels of satisfaction, according to research recently released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). According to the “New Home Buyers and Technology Purchases” study, overall satisfaction is above 75 percent for all the technologies tested: owners of home theater systems have the highest satisfaction rate at 89 percent. The study was presented by CEA’s Director of Research Joe Bates at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference in San Francisco, California.
