Editorial Reviews:

Onkyo has built a reputation for making advanced features and performance more affordable for budget-conscious fans of home entertainment. Take, as a prime example, the HT-S5300 receiver and speaker package. At the heart of this 7.1-channel system, you have an A/V receiver sporting four of the latest HDMI 1.4 inputs—enough for all your high-def sources. HDMI 1.4 brings compatibility with 3D video—coming soon—and an Audio Return Channel. With the HT-S5300, you can also adjust settings on the fly with a handy overlaid on-screen display. The receiver offers a broad range of connectivity options, such as a front input for portable devices and a Universal Port for one-cable connection of the included Dock for iPhone/iPod. High-quality Burr-Brown DACs ensure pristine analog conversion of all digital audio sources, including HD audio formats from Dolby and DTS. And Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz gives you the option of a new height-channel set-up with the included 7.1-channel speaker package.

Summary: Do the limbo
Comment: Thats what you will be doing with this system. When running HDMI, will you get a picture? will you get sound? can you get both at the same time? I have to do the shuffle almost every time i turn on my tv/cbl. Sometimes the audio/picture will come on no problem with the receiver off. Other time i have to turn the receiver on, select the cable get what i want, then turn it off. Drat, now i don't get audio and / or picture. So gotta turn the unit on again. switch to another option, then back to cbl and hope I get what i want when I turn the unit back off. Don't want the unit on for just for tv.
Come home one day, nothing works but the tuner, finally i try unplugging unit, hooray.. almost, Port for the Ipod still doesn't work.
One big headache.
Only good thing is that when the system does work right, it does the job well. but good luck with that

Comment: Likes:
- Sound is awesome...
- Love the new onscreen setup
- HDMI 1.4a
- Price

Dislikes:
- Already a recall for service for left & right channel
- HDMI 1.4a with my AT&T Uverse box sometimes audio goes out for a split second when running through the receiver.

Overall I love ONKYO...I hope they can get my small audio issue fixed.

Summary: Install in 45min
Comment: I installed myself in 45min this home theater including fixing the speaker wall mounted and cables inside the wall...very easy. The instruction manual is very simple and very helpful. The cables are color coded matching the instrucion manual to make it easy to install.

The remote control has a noce size. Not so small not so big.

The subwoofer is really powerful, I had to adjust it to 70% of max output.

Speakers are nice, well finished and with good quality sound.

The receiver itself is pretty complete, with 4 HDMI you can connect everything you need.

I think it is a very good deal considering the price.

Summary: Love it
Comment: Love this unit. Powerful Bass and excellent sound come from this no matter what source you put in it. The only thing missing is the unit doesnt take component in sources and output them through HDMI. Component in sources have to also go out by component, something I was confused about when I bought it. For the value, I absolutely love it.

Summary: This system ROCKS!
Comment: You know how it goes, you buy a hi-def tv and now you've got to update all your equipment. I was happy with my Sony 36" and dvd player but after getting a great deal on a 61" 1080p Hi-def tv i knew i might as well upgrade my surround sound and go with blu-ray.

My girlfriend who knows or cares nothing about these things rolled her eyes and laughed. She's just there to enjoy it.

So off i went to Best Buy and laughed at the Sony home-theater-in-a-box systems. Cheap looking plasticky components for high prices. The Samsung HTC-6500 with integrated blu-ray player and 5.1 surround sound enticed me. I bought it cause it looked super sleek and sexy with its touch front panel controls and glossy black finish. Plus it claimed to be incredibly powerful with 1000 watts of sound power.

I already owned the Onkyo LS-V900 5.1 dvd surround system and i loved the quality of its sound and its sleek brushed aluminum look. You know with us guys though, we're looking for a reason to upgrade our electronics.

I took the Samsung home and i put it head to head with my Onkyo LN-V900 and the Onkyo won hands down. In comparison the Samsung sounded good and strong but weak when the volume went up. It sounded muddled and the bass not strong and is not adjustable. There also was not a lot of volume to play with either. In both movies and music it was just ok. I wanted to love it but it's performance was lacking. the Samsung went back in the box and back to the big-box-store.

I looked to Onkyo and found the HT-s5300. Wow, what a HUGE difference! I am totally impressed. The sound is clear and powerful. The sub-woofer rocks the room and the sound is deep. It is just a huge difference and sounds better than my Ls-V900.
Without a doubt leaves the sexy Samsung HTC-6500 in the dust. Even the dvd movies which are upconverted from the ht-s5300 look more hi-def than coming direct from the blu-ray player.

I love the Onkyo's included ipod/iphone dock that charges my iphone while im watching tv. The included speakers sound great and the powered sub-woofer rocks the house with deep, rumbling bass and is adjustable. For the money this is a great sounding system with all the latest features like HDMI 3-D ready inputs.

The price won't break the bank. The quality is there, the features are there. Unless you're rich and want to spend upwards of $2000 for a receiver then this component is awesome.

Yeah, the Onkyo HT-s5300 is not a slim, glossy, touch control machine. But it's a sexy powerhouse of a beast that i had to remove the glass shelf from the tv stand so it would fit and be adequately ventilated. Yeah i had to buy a separate blu-ray player instead of having it integrated like the Samsung but i think it's worth it and have raved about it to all who are near me at work! I'm glad i kept it with Onkyo and for the money, is a great quality and value.
