Customer Rating: Summary: Great price while it lasts; Superior performance Comment: My wife went out and bought a high definition TV. She likes movies, the Olympics, and Dr. House. We do not get cable or sat TV. We get movies from Netflix, and the library; and those we want in our library come from Amazon and all over. She likes the size and the flatness. So here we are in our apartment without a DVD player. So she comes home with Blu-ray. Now I need an HDMI cable.
I know how expensive HDMI cables are because they have nineteen wires, more or less, depending on the compliance standard. I also know the engineering behind cables in general, through no fault of my own. I studied them because the company I was advising, Pacific Coast Cable, was cabling the studios and the giant sound stages for three of the biggest in Hollywood and Burbank. So I learned the fine points of error propagation (both near and far end), signal decay over distance, termination errors and bad connections.
I bought an HDMI cable in the store for $90, from a supposedly reliable brand, and hooked it up. Everything worked, but I was underwhelmed. I had ignored everything I had learned about cables. The thing I bought for $90 was made in China and had no rating. In other words, it could pass no test.
So, from my experience in high end audio, I turned to AudioQuest. Their cables are performance and specification rated. This one is at 1.3. Just what I wanted, These price here is low. 1.4 is coming for special applications such as 3D. I bought the 2 meter. I know signal decay starts early and fails spec typically around 8 meters. I took heart that AudioQuest does not exceed 7.5 meter length.
I plugged it in at home and everything came alive. Deeply saturated and true color. Fine resolution. Few artifacts. My wife immediately noticed the difference. As The New Yorker cartoon caption read under a father and his dejected kid after striking out in the inning, "Don't worry, today's nerd is tomorrow's heavy hitter"
Customer Rating: Summary: Only as good as . . . Comment: your weakest link. Buy good cables when you have good gear. Buy the best cables when you have the best gear. Expensive gear needs expensive cables. Don't buy a Ferrari and put cheap gas in it!
Customer Rating: Summary: For US 30, the best. Comment: I bought this cable at Vann's through Amazon, for a price of U.S. 30. For that price, this cable has no competition, is definitely the best. The shipment was prompt and the product of excellent quality. Hopefully a similar offer again, because at that price, this cable is a gift.
PD: Very solid construction!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Audio Quest HDMI X Comment: Certainly a good investment for the TV that you watch the most. Expensive, but worth it if the price is right.
Customer Rating: Summary: Quality but Expensive Comment: This is a good cable but as others have said here I think you can save money with a cheaper cable without sacrificing a large amount of quality.
